Xenophobia Against Indian Diaspora

Image
India has now become the most populated country in the world but the population doesn’t restrict itself within the country. In this borderless world where immigration is treated normal, mass Indian immigration is no surprise. However, Indian immigration, specifically that of Punjabi Sikhs, isn’t anything new; it dates back to the independence struggles., Due to the divide-and-rule policy of the British, Punjabis moved to Canada in the promise of Khalistan, a separate state that the Punjabis demanded. Since then, the reasons for migration kept changing as the ideologies changed. A separate state is now hardly a matter of concern for today’s immigrants. Migration is motivated because of a number of reasons, but through a number of surveys conducted, the following pop out the most: ·       Highly skilled or skilled professionals target developed Nations ·       Unskilled or semi-skilled workers find more opportunities in Gulf and Asian nations · ...

Sue Generis - An entity of its own

Human evolution has been as constant as the passage of time.  From Ramapethicus to this large horde of homo sapiens who struggle to live together and yet pay so much importance to the concept of community; a sense of belongingness.  Durkhiem called society “sue generis” which means, an entity of its own.   “Don't be told what you want Don't be told what you need There's no future.” “I am an anarchist Don't know what I want But I know how to get it I wanna destroy passersby.” “You call us weirdos/you call us crazy Say we’re evil/say we’re lazy Say we’re just the violent type Kind of dumb, not too bright.” These are a few lyrics from some well-known punk songs. For the majority of the population, punk culture is associated with funky hairstyles, ripped jeans, tattoos, distorted guitar riffs, destruction, and aggressive lyrics. The word punk was originally an archaic term for a prostitute; ‘Puncke’ was used by Shakespeare ambiguously, and this term later became a slang term for anyone who posed a threat to authority or was a miscreant. The punk scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s wasn’t limited purely to music. In addition to literature, poetry, fashion, and political defiance, it became an ideology understood as a site of resistance against a specific political syst...

Now, he does so to stay ‘relevant’ and informed in this fast-paced, ever-changing society. Social connection across various cultures is a new trend where people can connect with various other people from across the sea through the use of advanced technology. Beneficial and fast, this mode of connection allows us to connect with anyone, anywhere and anytime with the help of a variety of tools and platforms, including email, chat, video conferencing, social media, and online forums.  The importance of online communication peaked during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 which brought the world to an abrupt halt. From daily grocery shopping to the regular 9 to 5, everything was shifted to an online medium. Buying groceries from Big Basket was the new regular while Microsoft Teams and Zoom were the new workplace. Due to unfortunate circ...
