Silence Speaks!

Communication is the essence of any relationship in this world, be it romantic, platonic, professional, or just an acquaintance. It becomes essential that we understand how we communicate with those around us because it typically becomes who we are. When we open our mouths or behave in a certain way in front of those around us, we have begun to show them the kind of person that we are, and the personality we harbour. It also starts defining the way in which they would approach and behave with us. Verbal and nonverbal, we communicate through all we say and all we do.  One such form of communication that is unhealthy is passive-aggressiveness. It is a pattern of indirectly expressing negative feelings instead of addressing them openly. What a passive-aggressive communicator means and what they do, are entirely different. They behave in ways that are seemingly innocent and accidental but have an unconscious aggressive motive. It is not necessary that an individual indulges in s...

How do your parents influence your communication skills?

Image
Research findings have consistently shown that parental influence, whether it be from a mother, father, grandparent, or a brother filling the parental position, helps children develop their communication skills. Based on the way their parents interact with them, children start to build ideas and notions about themselves. Ineffective or bad communication between parents and children usually makes the kids feel unimportant, unheard, or misunderstood. These kids could grow to view their parents as unreliable and unhelpful. For instance, Social behavior; which is easily defined as behavior affecting another person or individual, may impact communication. A child's reactions, both positive and negative, may be influenced by their parents' influence on their social behaviour (Goddard, 1994).           Empathy, emotional stability, and awareness are examples of good social conduct that must be presented in order to be learned. COMMUNICATION THROUGH AGES

Image
Your friend across the room gives you a subtle nod to let you know that they're up for a party tonight. Your mother lets out a heavy sigh as she enters the house after a long day at work. You understand that she needs rest after a tiresome day. You can tell your father is angry with you because you didn't do your homework with just the one glance he gives you. How can we have such a complex conversation without using words? The reason is non-verbal communication.  Non-verbal communication describes the behavioural components of human-to-human messages. Others can deduce meaning from a person's look, posture, and facial expressions explaining why understanding others around you without verbal communication is so easy ( Emotions, Technology, and Digital Games , 2015). The essential thing is that non-verbal communication is the dialectic opposite of verbal communication and that they together make up human communication. Non-verbal cues play a big part in how we express our ...
